Corporate Information & Knowledge Manager

(PO11 £63,186 – £64,245)

Hackney will shortly be looking for someone to lead our information governance and records management teams. These are key parts of our transformation ambitions, building on our commitment to transparency, trustworthy handling of personal information and effective management of our records to support the delivery of excellent services to Hackney’s residents and businesses.

As our Corporate Information & Knowledge Manager (and statutory Data Protection Officer) you will have a strong understanding of the principles of record management, the opportunities and challenges presented by GDPR and information governance. You will enjoy working in a friendly, collaborative and supportive team environment, using your experience to lead a user-centric service which advises colleagues on how to protect the privacy of our residents, supports the sharing of knowledge effectively across the organisation and enables us to use our information as an asset.

You will work closely with the Council’s SIRO (the Group Director, Finance & Corporate Resources) and Deputy SIRO (the Director ICT), providing expert advice to strategic leaders and other colleagues across the Council.

We have made important progress in the last three years, including:

There is much that we still need to do. Our current priorities include developing and embedding a ‘consultancy’ model for the advice we provide to our colleagues and partners, engaging with innovative work to develop integrated health and social care, and supporting services across the Council in modernising their approach to records management.

We’re looking for a candidate who will:

  • Put the Council’s values and the principles of our ‘HackIT manifesto’ at the heart of how they work, leading the team and influencing colleagues positively across the organisation.
  • Put user needs at the heart of their approach, adopting a ‘Yes, if’ mindset to ensure that we’re meeting our obligations to share data to benefit residents whilst also protecting their privacy.
  • Be ready to engage in the detail of data sharing and privacy and the ethical dilemmas associated with those, helping us to find practical ways to support our residents and respect their rights.
  • Continue to identify and deliver improvements to our responses to requests for information (in particular FOI and SARs).
  • Advise the SIRO and Information Governance Group confidently and clearly.

Hackney is a great place to work and the Council offers an excellent benefits package, a modern workplace and technology, and is positive about flexible working. You can find out more about working at Hackney and the benefits we offer here:
